Canadian industrial group Empire Industries Ltd. has announced that its Dynamic Structures business unit has signed a major contract valued at over $18 million (about €13.5 million) with a global leader in amusement parks and resorts to manufacture a signature attraction for a park located in China. No detailed information has been revealed on this contract that the company describes as prestigious, except that it will be executed over the next 18 months.
Guy Nelson, Chief Executive Officer of Empire Industries said: “This contract is another concrete example of how Empire’s global clients are aggressively addressing the growing need for high quality entertainment options throughout Asia. Empire has focused its unique selling proposition to capitalize on the continuing demand for entertainment consumption options from China’s growing middle class.”
Dynamic Structures has lately been awarded several important contracts for leading theme park operators around the world including a $30 million amusement ride in the United States, two flying theatre attractions (valued in excess of $10 million) in China and a $3.8 million media based attraction in the UAE. The company has delivered over 50 custom design/build amusement ride projects.
The water ride manufacturer Interlink has recently completed the installation of a Super Flume log flume ride at PowerPark in Härmä, Finland.
The attraction, named Kwai River as it takes its theming from the famous film Over the River Kwai, was especially designed to fit into an existing bridge structure, providing an additional engineering challenge to the company design team. The 400-meter/1,312-feet circuit features two lifts, two drops of 7-meter/23-feet and 14-meter/46-feet high, a themed station building with a 12-meter/39-feet long section for loading/unloading and 9 six-seater boats for an hourly capacity of 600 guests.
Interlink Managing Director John Hudd commented: “This has been an enjoyable project to work on. It threw up some interesting design challenges which we successfully overcame and we are very happy with the end result. Clearly visitors to PowerPark are also very happy as it’s been popular with riders from the first day of opening in July and I’m sure it will continue to be so for many years to come.”
PowerPark's technical manager Petri Sariola added: “We wanted to add a big new water ride to the park and having looked around at what was on offer from different suppliers we chose the Super Flume from Interlink. It has been very popular with our guests since opening and will no doubt help to increase our visitor numbers overall. Interlink have been very good with all aspects of the installation and overcame any initial teething problems that occurred. It is a really good addition to the park.”
Together with various models and sizes of log flume, Interlink’s range of water rides includes the Rapid River, Water Battle, Shoot the Chute, Spin Boat and kiddy and junior flumes, all of which allow the company to cater to different customer requirements and a wide range of age groups. A recently introduced range of panoramic towers is also available from the company.
Dubai's first entertainment resort destination Atlantis The Palm has entrusted WhiteWater with the installation of a huge water slide complex set to open this month at Aquaventure Waterpark, one of the most popular water park of the UAE.
The 40-meter/131-feet tall Tower of Poseidon will offer guests a number of world’s firsts including two AquaTubes ™ which fly through the Anaconda™, the world’s largest diameter water slide at 9 meter/30 feet. “This flume-thru-flume technology offers a revolutionary water slide within a water slide experience, allowing Anaconda™ riders a spectacular view of the AquaTubes™ right above their heads ,” said the company in a statement. Additionally, the world’s first zipline integrated into a waterslide tower will deliver a new level of thrills as riders fly through on two-lane, two-way zip lines spanning three towers. Also originals to the Middle East, a Family Boomerango™ and two Dueling AquaLoops™ will be integrated into the complex.
“We are thrilled with the opportunity to work with Atlantis, The Palm, and proud to have created innovative attractions which offer thrilling and unique experiences to their guests,” said Geoff Chutter, WhiteWater president & CEO. “We can’t wait to see the smiles all around, once the expansion opens.”
This major expansion joins other WhiteWater attractions at Aquaventure Waterpark including four Master Blaster® water coasters, a custom themed AquaPlay™ interactive play structure, and the popular Leap of Faith water slide which features a drop through a live shark marine exhibit.
Indian manufacturer of water park equipments and playground equipments Arihant Industrial Corporation reports that it has completed two new installations in Europe. In the Ukraine, the company delivered Aqua Park a pirate themed water play structure that features several open and closed kiddie slides together with water play elements. In Greece, Arihant delivered a smaller water play structure with a complex of five adult slides that includes a Multi Racer mat slide, a Family Float tube slide and a Crazy Cruise freefall slide.
“Arihant is delighted about their growing popularity thanks to their customized product range among European region and confident of achieving high end revenues from European region in the coming years,” commented Praney Safari, Director Marketing at Arihant Industrial Corporation.
During this year’s Asian Attractions Expo (AAE), an IAAPA delegation visited the new themed restaurant show Lat’s Place at Puteri Harbour, the latest in a line of attractions from Malaysia’s Themed Attractions and Resorts (TAR) which is inspired by the work of the Malaysian cartoonist Dato’Lat.
The project was produced and directed by Esme Jesudason from Singapore, with Nick Farmer from Farmer Attraction Development providing the planning and creative design. Animalive’s real time animation technology brings cartoon characters to life interacting directly with the guests. The scenery was built by Sanderson International, with a team of artists hand painting the scenery precisely recreating the style of Lat's illustrations.
“The show recreates Lat’s unique cartoon characters brought to life in real-time with a funny, fast-moving and memorable musical experience. His unique illustration style is carried through to the full scenic treatment of the restaurant, totally immersing guests in his world. During the show fine Malaysian food is served by talented staff who join in with the songs and engage with the guests,” explained Nick Farmer.
