Tokyo Disney Resort® announced today that the total combined attendance at Tokyo Disneyland® Park and Tokyo DisneySea® Park during the first half of this fiscal year (April 1 to September 30, 2012) amounted to a record high figure of 13,25 million persons, an increase of 2,511 million guests or 123.4% of the attendance figure for the same period last year.
During the first quarter, springtime special events including a new Tokyo DisneySea special event “Mickey and Duffy’s Spring Voyage” (April 3 through June 30) attracted more guests to both the Parks. The second quarter saw the grand opening of a new Tokyo DisneySea attraction, Toy Story Mania! (opened July 9), and the debut of a new Tokyo Disneyland special event, “Disney’s Natsu Matsuri” (July 9 through August 31). Both the attraction and the special event proved to be highly popular and were effective in generating increased attendance.
In an official statement, OLC Company explains that "the implementation of a major new attraction and the new special events helped to draw more attendance than was expected over the first half of this fiscal year. Moreover, the low number of rainy days during the summer vacation period was also a factor in making this fiscal year’s first half attendance our highest ever."
The previous attendance record for the first half was signed in fiscal year 2008 with 13,05 million guests. Last year, this figure was exceptionally low (10,74 million) due to the consequences of the Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred in March 2011.
