Sommerland Sjælland recreates the gold rush...
for real!
Update : 09/08/12 - 12h47Published by François Mayné the 7 August 2012, New.
The small Danish amusement park Sommerland Sjælland, located about a hundred kilometers from Copenhagen, proposes this summer a very original temporary attraction.
Its director and owner indeed had the idea of hiding 10 real gold nuggets (24K) in a field in order to offer to its visitors the fever of gold rush, for free!
Every day, the field is open for only 2 hours and shovels are available to dig and scratch the ground. The park also invites visitors to bring their own equipment except metal detectors that are of course prohibited. The lucky 10 will have the option to retain their gold nugget and bring it at home or the park will offer 1,000 Danish kroner (about €135 or $160) to redeem them.
Kåre Dyvekær, manager and owner, explains : "I was dreaming about a gold field and I have played with the thought for years, as it could be a fun and ought way to use our themed western area, Silver City. Imagine digging for real gold, and perhaps ending up going home with more money in your pocket than you came in with!”
Many amusement parks, mainly in the United States, offer to children similar attractions where they have fun looking fake gold nuggets or gems with turnkey facilities by specialized retailers. But Sommerland Sjælland is probably the first park to offer pure gold!
Sommerland Sjælland is customary unique activities and attractions. Last season, he launched a mobile phone application that allows visitors to interact with several elements of the park via SMS as for example trigger a water cannon or feed animals in a paddock.
