Covering an area of about 15 hectares (37 acre), the resort will be located south of Universal's Islands of Adventure on one currently unoccupied land at the corner of Hollywood Way and Turkey Lake Road. Its theming will be inspired by the vintage look of US highway motels with bold design, dramatic, clean lines, bright, period colors and touches of neon. One will find several dining areas as well as two outdoor themed swimming pools.

"Our new hotel will give guests an affordable, incredibly themed on-site hotel experience unlike anything else at our resort," said Tom Williams, chairman and chief executive officer, Universal Parks & Resorts. "Our new family suites and family-value pricing will give our guests on-site options they've never had before."

Universal's Cabana Bay Beach Resort will enhance the hotels capacity of Universal Orlando Resort where attendance has boomed since the opening in June 2010 of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter themed area. Last year, both theme parks have indeed attracted more than 1.725 million more visitors compared to the previous season, up 29%! These figures are expected to continue rising in coming years thanks to the many projects currently under development or under consideration by Universal. The city of Orlando is itself the most touristy of the United States with an annual attendance exceeding 53 million tourists.

Loews already manages three 4 star on-site hotels namely the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel (750 rooms), the Hard Rock Hotel (650 rooms) and the Loews Royal Pacific Resort (1,000 rooms). With Universal's Cabana Bay Beach Resort, Universal Orlando's total accomodations capacity will be of 4,200 rooms.

"The Cabana Bay Beach Resort furthers our goal of operating special and distinct properties in important markets," said Paul Whetsell, Loews Hotels & Resorts president and CEO. "This is another important step in our plan to expand the Loews system in major markets across the United States."
