Major investment announced for Liseberg in 2013
with Kaninlandet
Update : 07/07/12 - 11h23Published by François Mayné the 6 July 2012, New.
Liseberg Amusement Park, located in Gothenburg, Sweden, announced that it would make in 2013 the biggest investment in its history as part of its 90th anniversary. The park will indeed invest 195 million Swedish kronor, or about 22.6 million euros, to create a new themed area for kids called Kaninlandet.
"Children are our priority for 2013 as we celebrate our 90 years," said Andreas Andersen, CEO of Liseberg. “We are both proud and excited about this investment. This is a great project that contains a lot of heart, creativity and quality as we have always done at Liseberg.”
Kaninlandet will cover an area 10,000 square meters (about 107,640 square feet) and will expand the existing children's area with seven new rides, skill games, an innovative playground as well as several snacks and shops. The theming will be inspired by Liseberg's mascots: green rabbits (Kanonlandet actually means "The land of rabbits").
Among the new rides, there will be a monorail (Cykel Monorailà), two junior freefall towers (Fall Mini Fritt), a junior ferris wheel (Pariserhjul), a family roller coaster (Berg Mini-och dalbana), a circuit of kiddie cars (Nya Farfars Bil), junior flying chairs (Flygkarusell) and a balloon ride (Ballongkarusell). The area will also include three existing attractions that will be moved (Cykelturen, Knatterally and Ponnykarusellen) and 2 to be renovated (Kaffekoppen and Kaninresan). Finally, four attractions will be removed: Gamla Farfars Bil (circuit of kiddie cars, 1974), Sma Grodorna (junior drop tower, 2000), Flygkarusellen (carousel, 1990) and Trummeliten (tea cup, 1991).
Alongside to Kaninlandet, the investment involves the expansion of the main avenue of the park (Storgatan) and the creation of another themed zone (Västkustområdet) with a picnic area and a family restaurant divided in three units: a Burger King fast food with 250 seats, a sandwich shop and a snack specialized in pies. Construction work have already started and the opening of the whole area is scheduled for April 2013.
Liseberg has invested this season over 15 million euros in the opening of three new rides including the most recent Skepp o´ skoj (a kiddie boat ride delivered by abc rides switzerland) that just opened before the start of the summer season.
Liseberg is one of the largest amusement parks in Europe and annually welcomes approximately 3.2 million visitors. This is one of Sweden's tourist sites most visited.
The German theme park Europa-Park has surpassed in 2012 the 4.5 million visitors for the first time, confirming its position as the first seasonal park in the world. This outcome is therefore highly satisfactory for the Mack...
