The Dutch amusement park Walibi Holland, located in Biddinghuizen in the province of Flevoland, continues this season to integrate the new musical universe of the Walibi brand with the addition of a new family attraction: Club Psyke: 5D Experience, a 4D cinema in which the animated movie "Rokken 'Roll" is presented.
Directed in 2011 by Remi Chapotot and Anthony Rota, this 9-minutes movie was produced specifically in 3D format for Walibi parks by the French animation studio Creative Cube. It relates the adventures of Walibi and his new musical partners at the heart of a fantasy underworld called Shimmeria.
Club Psyke: 5D Experience has been built into the Wild Wild West themed area where it replaces the Crazy Horse Saloon theater. The facade was redecorated to look like "Club Psyke", a place of Shimmeria where Walibi and his band perform their concerts in their new stories.
Once inside the building, visitors begin by attending a pre-show during which the character of Vita Drakovitz interacts with the public via a giant screen. Developed by the German company Induce Project in 2011 for the outdoor shows of Walibi Rhône-Alpes and Walibi Sud-Ouest (France), the animation is done using the techniques of augmented reality and face tracking : a computer system analyzes the movements and expressions of an actor installed in backstage while he speaks to the audience and observes their reactions with a video camera. The virtual character then reproduces his movements and expressions on the screen making the pre-show more interactive for visitors.
The 4D cinema room is built in a new building and differs from the other 3 that opened in Belgium and France last year by the fact that visitors are standing rather than sitting on dynamic seats. With a capacity of 200 to 250 persons, the installation was conducted by Entertainment Ressource, a German company which also provided the special effects (including fire, wind, lighting, etc..).
Regarding the theming, Walibi Holland worked with P&P Projects for outdoor decoration and the preshow and with Theming and Animatronics (TAA) Industries which has achieved 500 sqm (about 5382 sq ft) of artificial rocks on the walls of the screening room. The entire project was overseen with the help of Damstra Techniek, a technical consultant which had already worked on major projects for the park since 2000.
Walibi Holland is the last of four Walibi parks to introduce Rokken' Roll after Walibi Belgium which replaced its Cinema 4D SpongeBob while maintaining the previous installation with dynamic seats, and Walibi Rhône-Alpes / Walibi Sud-Ouest which have both opened new facilities without dynamic seats.
