TEA unveils first details about SATE 2012 program

and speakers at Disneyland Paris

Update : 17/09/12 - 17h41 Published by François Mayné the 18 June 2012, Event.
The Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) is actively preparing its annual conference SATE to be held this year from September 19 to 21 at Disneyland Paris in the Disney's Hotel Newport Bay Club convention center. Co-chaired by Imagineer Joe Rohde and show designer Yves Pepin, the event theme will be the cultural diversity in the themed entertainment.

In addition to announcing a keynote that will be presented by Joe Rohde at the opening party on September 19, the association has already confirmed that SATE 2012 will be divided into three sessions and has established a provisional list of professionals who will be invited to speak in front of the 200 to 250 attendees expected. Each session will include case studies, testimonials and panel discussions covering the global attractions industry around the four ideas of SATE : the art of storytelling, the architecture, the technology and the production of experience.

The cross-cultural dialog will span the mature markets of the US and Europe, the rapidly expanding markets of Asia, and the emerging markets of the Middle East & South America. The conference will be in French and English, with simultaneous translation provided.

On September 20, the morning session will discuss the topic of "Working within a Multicultural Environment with a Multicultural Team". The discussions will be moderated by Michel Linet-Frion (Center Parcs) and Bart Dohmen (BRC Imagination Arts) around several speakers: Patrick Stalder (International Olympic Committee), Koert Vermeulen (ACT Lighting), Matthew Jessner (Franco Dragone Entertainment Group) Keith James (Jack Rouse Associates) and Steve Rhys (Forrec). The afternoon session will focus on "Interpretation/Cultural Representation Challenges & Responsibilities". Moderated by Jan Maarten de Raad (Jora Vision) and Audrey O'Connell (Natural History Museum), the speakers will be Steve Swaby (Natural History Museum), Sophie Poirier (OCT Shenzhen) and Arnaud Martin (Les Petits Français).

Finally, the morning session of September 21 will look at the "New Cultural Territories within the Global Market". Presented by Lesley Morisetti (LM Associates) and Chris Conte (Electrosonic), speakers will include Manal Attaya (Sharjah Museums Authority), Andrea Dearden (Science Museum London), Frédéric Nancel (Château de Chantilly), Ray Hole (rh architects), Jean François Zurawik (La Fête des Lumières, Lyon) et Alex MacCuaig (Drug Information Center Hong Kong).

Building on the success of the previous editions in the USA, the SATE brings together all those who are working in the world to creation and production of experiences for the public, ie: creatives, designers, architects, project managers, producers, developers or attractions operators. Besides the possibility to listen and discuss with industry professionals, the event is also a unique opportunity for attendees to enlarge their network.

Registrations are now open ($499 for members, $699 for non-members) and it is strongly recommanded to book early on teaconnect.org because seating is limited. TEA also have a special offer for accommodation at the Disney's Hotel Newport Bay Club.

Post-SATE Trip

To celebrate the two French theme parks rewarded last year with a Thea Award, the TEA will propose to conference attendees who are interested to join a post-SATE trip from September 21 to 23.

The preliminary agenda provides that the first day will be devoted to Puy du Fou with the discovery of their major shows followed by a series of behind the scenes visits with park officials before ending with a dinner show and a spectacular night show. The next day, participants will visit the Futuroscope with CEO Dominique Hummel. A backstage tour of Arthur L'Aventure 4D, winner of a Thea Award as one of the best attractions of the year, will be proposed. Housing will be organized at Puy du Fou for the first night and at Futuroscope for the second.
