The water park Dollywood’s Splash Country located in Pigeon Forge, TN, made the announcement this weekend that it will open in 2013 an electromagnetic waterslide named RiverRush. The total amount of the investment has not been specified.
The design and construction of RiverRush will be handled by Canadian manufacturer ProSlide that will deliver there its patented HydroMAGNETIC Rocket waterslide, a technology allowing the rafts to accelerate in uphills, thanks to magnetic motors placed under the track. The ride combines then drops and uphills to create what looks like a water coaster experience.
Operating in closed loop, RiverRush will cover an area of approximately 1 acre (about 4,000 sqm) for a total length of 1.175 ft (358 m). After a conveyor lift of 237 feet long (72 m), the waterslide will begin with a 25 feet (8 m) drop angled at 45° before moving on several tight turns (in tubed sections) and three other drops. Each raft will accommodate four people sitting one behind the other.
“At Dollywood, we made history with Wild Eagle, the country’s first wing coaster, so I thought, why not do it again at Dollywood’s Splash Country with my new RiverRush water coaster,” said the country singer Dolly Parton, co-owner of the park with Hershend Family Entertainment. “You know me. I love making a big splash, and RiverRush is all that and a whole lot more!”
Located adjacent to Dollywood theme park, Dollywood's Splash Country has already benefited over $12 million (about €9.5m) in capital improvements and additions since its opening in 2001. The most recent attraction (a mat racing slides installation also manufactured by ProSlide) opened in 2010.
The park has already launched a website dedicated to promoting RiverRush.
