MAGMA : a new volcanic drop tower opens at
Paultons Family Theme Park
Update : 03/05/12 - 11h30Published by François Mayné the 2 May 2012, New.
Paultons Family Theme Park, located in Ower, UK, opened on March 31 a new family thrill ride manufactured by SBF - Visa Group : MAGMA.
The project was developed by RMA Ltd., a company specialized in the design and production of themed environments for the amusement industry. They had already worked last year for the Peppa Pig World themed area, several kiddie rides and entertainments inspired by the universe of British animated series "Peppa Pig". The theme for MAGMA is a Jurassic volcano whose crater is the main element surrounding the ride. Its construction required 10 tons of steel, 7 tons of timber and 500 liters of paint. Special effects (lights, smoke and music) and an animatronic dinosaur installed in the queue complete the theming.
RMA’s managing director Nigel Knight said :“We were delighted to be asked to provide the theming around Paultons’ newest ride. Working with Paultons on Peppa Pig World was a great experience and Magma has given us the opportunity to create another world class attraction with them.” Paultons’ commercial director Stephen Lorton added : “Having opened Peppa Pig World to much excitement last year we were delighted with the response we received from our guests who visited — the attention to detail RMA designed and built in to the attraction is incredible, it really is like stepping in to Peppa’s World. When we decided to theme our new ride, Magma, RMA was the obvious choice to work with to create our new experience.”
MAGMA is a Drop'n Twist model of 25 meters high. The attraction consists of a circular platform going up and down while rotating clockwise or anticlockwise (maximum 6 rpm) at the same time. There are 16 seats for an hourly capacity of about 320 people. The tower weighs 30 tons and it took 100 tons of reinforced concrete for the foundations.
MAGMA is the fifth Twist'n Drop tower supplied by SBF - Visa Group worldwide. Among the other projects completed, the first one opened at Flambards Park in the UK in 2010 and the most "original" has been installed in Vietnam in the heart of a shopping center. Tommaso Frison of SBF - VISA Group stated : "It was a pleasure to work with Paultons Park! This is an important park in the UK and we hope to have other opportunities to work with them in the future."
The marketing campaign of MAGMA was primarily focused on social media. First feedback from visitors are all positive according to Stephen Lorton that said “We think Magma is the perfect addition to Paultons, building on our reputation as a destination for the whole family. We look forward to welcoming fun-families with children of all ages for a fun-filled visit.”
