Compagnie des Alpes announces revenues of €394

million for the first half of FY 2011-2012

Update : 11:41 Published by François Mayné the 27 April 2012, Corporate.
Compagnie des Alpes Group (CDA) yesterday announced consolidated sales of €394 million (about $520 million) for the first half of fiscal year 2011/2012 ie from October 1, 2011 to March 31, 2012. This amount represents an increase of 8.3% (4.9% on a comparable basis) over the prior year.

The 2010-2011 comparable scope includes the revenues from Futuroscope between October 1, 2010 and December 1, 2010 (before its acquisition by the Group in January 2011) and excludes the sales of the 7 leisure parks sold at the beginning of 2011 for the period between October 1, 2010 and January 31, 2011.

Consolidated sales from October 1, 2011 to March 31, 2012

Although the activity of leisure parks is not very significant on the first half of fiscal year (15% of annual activity), its turnover is up 38% to €65 million (about $86 million) due particulary to the integration of Futuroscope. On a comparable basis, this increase came to nearly 10%. The first semester got off to a good start, thanks to the parks opened during the Toussaint holidays - mainly for Halloween festivities - and to the success of the Christmas trees at Parc Astérix. CDA states that "these good results demonstrate the attractiveness of these products as highlights of the seasonal calendar."

The beginning of the third quarter is currently penalized by exceptionally poor weather conditions compared to 2011 but the CDA believes that this season should be bolstered by exceptional celebrations in the major leisure parks, particularly Futuroscope’s 25th anniversary. The four Walibi parks have benefited from a double-digit rise in attendance in the first quarter which confirms the success of the strategy. The 2012 season should continue to benefit of this rebranding with new additions at Walibi Rhône-Alpes (a Flume Ride) Walibi Sud-Ouest (3 kiddie rides) and Walibi Holland (a 4D cinema). Finally, Parc Asterix launched its brand new Inverted Coaster called OzIris on April 7.

Sales from ski areas for H1 2011-2012 were very good, and rose by 3.8% to €328 million (about $432.5 million). CDA states that the outlook is positive thanks to the activity of April, which benefited from better positioning of the Easter holidays.

The half year results of Compagnie des Alpes will be announced Thursday, May 24 before market.
