KMG unveils Sicko, a new transportable swing ride

with a unique third motion

Update : 17/04/12 - 13h18 Published by François Mayné the 3 November 2011, Innovation.

The Dutch manufacturer KMG, specialized in the conception and production of amusement rides for fun fairs, has decided to choose the IAAPA Attractions Expo 2011 trade show in Orlando to present officially its latest ride innovation: Sicko.

The 26-meters high attraction has been designed to complete their portfolio of swing rides which consists in Freak Out, Afterburner (or Fireball for the US market) and XXL. Sicko is 5 meters higher than the Afterburner with the same set-up system as the XXL, and it features the addition of a new motion of the gondolas.

Sicko is the latest ride innovation of KMG.

The main arm of Sicko (V-shaped) swings at a maximum angle of 120°, a pendulum motion combined with the rotation of the smaller arms which terminate by brand new rotating gondolas, an extra third motion. It’s not a free spinning, but a driven motor that the operator can pre-programmed or not. Because of the rotating of the gondols seats, you will for example face inwards then the next time the operator push the button – or with the pre-program -, you will face outwards. This is a new ride experience !” stated Peter Theunisz, International Sales Manager at KMG. Each gondola features 4 seats, with passengers sitting back to back by pairs, for a ride capacity of 24 people.

As for all KMG transportable rides, the set-up of Sicko won’t need a crane. The main structure of the ride will fold automatically with an hydraulic system on a semi-trailer, while the arms and the gondolas are dismanteled to be installed on a second semi-trailer. “We have an all package that goes down. Even the fences are foldable, as for the backside with the scenery” comments Peter Theunisz. On the road, the semi-trailer will be 17 meters long, “a little bit bigger that the standard; but still legal because the maximum length authorized in Europe is 18 meters” adds Peter Theunisz.

Sicko has already been sold in Europe, with two rides that will be delivered in 2012, including one for a French showman. With Mission Space and XLR8, two others ride innovations unveiled these past months, KMG enjoys a popularity more and more important... and stated to be interested by the market of amusement parks to grow its business. Anyway, the company announced recently that its order book was almost full for 2012.

As for 2013, KMG states that the company is presently negotiating the sales of an approx. 70 meters-high “Speed” ride with 24 or 32 passengers, and that it has plans of constructing an approx. 70 meters-high “Inversion” ride with a capacity of 24 persons . Both these ride, higher than the standard models, could be ordered as transportable or fixed version. Design preview drawings will be available at KMG booth (#5151) at the coming IAAPA Attractions Expo in Orlando (November 15-18).
