The Themed Entertainment Association reports that the registration is now open for its annual SATE experience design conference to be held from October 3 to 4 at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Savannah, Georgia, USA.
After a succesful previous edition in Paris, SATE (which stands for Storytelling, Architecture, Technology, Experience) will once again offer attendees to discover excellence in the design of compelling places and experiences and to learn about projects, and network within the business community. The event is especially dedicated for designers, producers, architects, operators, owners, technical designers, integrators, manufacturers and suppliers working within the attractions industry and beyond, while students and newcomers are also welcome.
Aram Ebben, Principal in charge of lighting design at exp, Inc., and graphic designer/show writer Stefan Lawrence of Stefan Rules are the co-chairs. They are currently roughing out a program and putting together a team of segment chairs who will be responsible for organizing sessions and panels and recruiting speakers. In addition, SATE '13 will include networking opportunities, after-hours activities, tours of SCAD and a platform for students to present their ideas and work.
The American film production company Legendary Entertainment has decided to not renew its current co-producing and co-financing partnership with Warner Bros. and will instead enter into a new 5-years agreement beginning in 2014 with Universal Pictures, a division of Comcast Corporation's NBCUniversal.
Under the terms of the agreement, Universal and Legendary will notably join their forces to identify opportunities to expand upcoming Legendary's franchises and intellectual property into Universal's theme parks. "Legendary continues to prove that big ideas are relevant and profitable with our global movie-going audience. We couldn't be more thrilled to embrace the challenges and changing marketplace and we are also excited about what opportunities this will bring to our theme parks around the world," said Ron Meyer, President and COO of Universal Studios.
Note that the deal doesn't include the existing Legendary's IP such as The Dark Knight, Man of Steel or The Hangover that will remain a property of Warner Bros.
The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions has announced that George Kalogridis, president of Walt Disney World Resort, will speak at the IAAPA Attractions Expo 2013 Lunch and Learn event on Monday Nov. 18 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, USA. He will explain how Walt Disney World Resort pushes the boundaries of creativity and innovation to deliver the best possible experience for guests. A brief question and answer session will follow the presentation.
“George’s enthusiasm for work and focus on the guest experience is infectious, His presentation is sure to provide Lunch and Learn attendees with invaluable lessons they can use to enhance their attractions and drive their business,” said IAAPA President and CEO Paul Noland.
More than 25,000 industry professionals from around the world are expected to attend the 2013 edition of IAAPA Attractions Show for a full week of business opportunities, networking events, and educational experiences.
British Association of Leisure Parks, Piers and Attractions (BALPPA)
Terry Monkton, Managing Director of UK-based dynamic simulation and 4D effects theatre specialist’s Simworx, has been appointed to the role of Chairman of the trade associates group within the British Association of Leisure Parks, Piers and Attractions (BALPPA).
He takes over the position from OmniTicket Newtork’s UK Operations Director John Davies following a two year period as Vice-Chairman. He will remain in the role for a further two years, supported by newly appointed Vice-Chairman Phil Pickersgill, Managing Director of Innovative Leisure.
The 110 trade associate members represent approximately 40 per cent of the total BALPPA membership and the group is made up of manufacturers and suppliers from the UK, elsewhere in Europe and further afield. As such they play a key role in supporting the association and its various activities, including with event sponsorship and specific areas of expertise. As Chairman of the group, Monkton will continue to have a place on the organisation’s Management Committee, along with Pickersgill, in order to represent the interests of the trade members and to put forward any issues they may wish to raise, either as a group or individually.
“I am very happy to take on the role of Chairman of the trade associates group within BALPPA,” commented Terry Monkton. “We play a vital role within the association, not just through our membership fees but with our sponsorship of events, attendance at trade shows officially supported by BALPPA, participation in seminars and in various other ways and I’m looking forward to representing the many industry suppliers we have as members.”
BALPPA currently has a total of approximately 270 members. The organisation represents the interests of owners, managers, suppliers and developers in the UK's commercial leisure parks, piers, zoos and static attractions sector.
