Asian industry to meet at the Asian Attractions Expo

2013 from 4th to 7th June in Singapore

The 2013 edition of the Asian Attractions Expo (AAE 2013), the largest conference and trade show for the attractions industry in Asia, will take place this coming week from 4th to 7th June at the convention center at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.

Asian Attractions Expo 2013The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA), which organizes the event expects to host more than 5,000 attendees from sixty countries, including at least 3,000 owners, executives and representatives of amusement parks, water parks , zoos, museums, family entertainment centers, aquariums and tourist attractions. 

Approximately 250 exhibitors will be present, they will showcase their products and services on an exhibition floor of more than 6,000 sqm (Click here to see a complete list of the exhibiting companies)

The trade show floor at Asian Attractions Expo is the perfect place to connect buyers and sellers from around the world,” said Paul Noland, president and CEO of IAAPA. “Asian Attractions Expo is a must-attend event for any professional involved in the attractions or leisure industry. The Expo is packed with business-building products, services, and new ideas.

The theme park market in Asia is in strong growth affirming its status as a new eldorado for many suppliers and industrial of the sector. According to the latest TEA / AECOM global report, the combined attendance of the 20 largest parks in the region has amounted in 2011 to more than 105 million visitors, a figure up nearly 10% compared to the previous year. For comparison, the 20 most frequented parks of a mature market such as North America totaled over 127 million entries in the same period, up of 'only' 3%. As for IAAPA, the association is expanding its presence in Asia for ten years, notably with the opening of a permanent office in Hong Kong in 2010.

Just like the other trade shows that it manages in Europe and the United States, IAAPA will offer to AAE 2013 attendees an extensive program of conference and special events with the aim of developing networking and education for both newcomers and experienced members of the industry.

Some ten educational sessions are scheduled over two days. They will focus on various topics such as the attractions recently opened in Asia, how to generate a buzz with social media, how to design an attraction that can appeal to the whole family, the role of storytelling in traveling exhibitions, creating and maintaining a social responsibility program, using a brand to develop an attraction or motivating staff. The presentations will be led by leaders of the major players in the region such as LEGOLAND Malaysia, Enchanted Kingdom (Philippines), Resorts World of Sentosa (Singapore), Dalian Wanda Group (China) and Shanghai Disney Resort (China).

The theme of safety, which is a top priority of IAAPA, will once again be highlighted with the organization of the IAAPA Safety Institute, a one-day conference which will address topics such as ASTM standards and regulations on safety operations. In preamble to the trade show the IAAPA Institute for Attractions Managers a three-day program specifically designed for young professionals with two to three years of experience in the industry will be organized.

On the side of special events, the AAE 2013 week will begin with an opening ceremony with Will Morey, current IAAPA Chairman of the Board and CEO of Morey's Piers. The first day will end with a welcome reception at Marine Life Park, the world's largest oceanarium. The next day, the CEO of Ocean Park Hong Kong Tom Mehrmann will present a keynote at the traditional Leadership Breakfast while the Young Professional Forum will provide opportunities for young professionals under age 35 to talk to industry leaders during the afternoon. Finally, a behind-the-scenes tour of Universal Studios Singapore as well as a post-AAE trip to Bali in Indonesia are also suggested to all attendees. Some of these special events are already sold-out.

The show floor will be open from 10am to 5pm on Tuesday June 5 and Wednesday June 6, and from 10am to 3pm on Thursday June 7. It will be still possible to register on site ($95 for non-members of IAAPA).
