Efteling entrusts Puy du Fou the staging of
the new version of Raveleijn show
Update : 15/03/13 - 09h01Published by François Mayné the 14 March 2013, New.
After having successfully launched the night show Aquanura during its 60th anniversary celebration last year, the Dutch theme park Efteling has chosen to appeal to the Puy du Fou teams to lead the restaging of its medieval show Raveleijn.
With its experience and reputation in the conception and production of spectacular shows combining actors, animals and special effects, Puy du Fou created in 2010 a consulting agency specializing in this field: Puy du Fou International. Besides the adaptation of the staging, the French park has been also entrusted with the operations management and decided to send thirty artists (actors, stunt, riders and falconers) in The Netherlands to perform the shows.
Unveiled in April 2011 and seen by nearly 2 million spectators, Raveleijn is one of the highlights of Efteling, the third most visited theme park in Europe after Disneyland Paris and Europa-Park. Presented several times per day at the heart of an outdoor arena, the show is based on a tale written by Paul Van Loon (an author of children's books) which tells the story of five children turning into knights to release a medieval city of a mighty tyrant.
Despite an overall investment of more than € 30 million* and almost two years of work, the show has clearly not achieved a level of popularity sufficient for the Efteling's leaders who had already revised the scenario in September 2011. According to Bart de Boer, President and CEO of Efteling: "We are very satisfied of our cooperation with Puy du Fou. The new version of Raveleijn will be epic with lots of action and suspense. Visitors will enjoy a magic gate, the transformation of children into knights as well as many other special effects using water and fire."
Alongside to Raveleijn whose premiere will be presented on April 30, Puy du Fou International is currently working on other projects in Poland, Spain, Russia and China.
* More than just a show, Raveleijn (which means 'ravelin' in old Dutch, ie a triangular fortification) is actually a large complex of 1,450 square meters (approx 15,600 square feet) which includes a medieval restaurant, rooms for corporate and family events as well as Efteling's main offices.
