The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) has named Will Morey, President and CEO of Morey's Piers in Wildwood, New Jersey (USA), as the new Chairman of the Board for a term of one year.
He will lead the trade association, which represents approximately 4,300 members in 90 countries, for the next year and oversee the ongoing development and implementation of its 2013-2015 strategic plan. He will also travel around the world to represent the association as well as the global industry. “This honor comes following the devastation of Hurricane Sandy to amusement facilities and communities along the eastern seaboard of the U.S.,” Will Morey stated. “My goal is to use this unique opportunity to create greater exposure for the rebuilding effort and aid in coordinating assistance from our domestic and international colleagues.”
A veteran of the attractions industry, Will Morey started his career in 1975, shortly after his father and his uncle founded Morey’s Piers in 1969. He served in a number of seasonal positions in the company and then worked closely with his father and brother in residential resort development in New Jersey and also joined with additional partners to develop two water parks in California and Utah. Later, he assisted in various aspects of the company’s operations until 1994 when his full attention was focused on amusement operations in New Jersey. He was then named president and CEO of Morey’s Piers in 1997.
Will Morey has been involved in IAAPA for many years. He was for instance a member and chair of the association’s government relations committee before being elected to the board of directors in 2008. The path to the chairmanship took - as it is usual - four years during which he successively assumed the roles of third, second and first vice chairman. It officially came into office during the opening ceremony of the IAAPA Attractions Show on November 13.
Jack Morey succeeds to Roland Mack, managing partner of Europa-Park Resort and MACK Rides, who has made a positive assessment of his one-year term as IAAPA Chairman of the Board. "Our association has grown together even more strongly and we have established central strategic goals, such as the harmonization of international safety standards, the development of higher environmental requirements for leisure facilities and the strengthening of the regions within the industry association. I am also proud that we have been able to improve the position of the European leisure industry significantly," he said.
At the IAAPA's annual business meeting held prior the IAAPA Attractions Expo, new members were elected to the Board of Directors as well as in the different association's committees. For more information, please visit www.iaapa.org
