Game On! IAAPA Attractions Expo 2012 debuts
in Orlando

The 2012 edition of IAAPA Attractions Expo, the largest conference and trade show event for the global industry of amusement parks and attractions, kicked-off today at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, USA. More than 25,000 participants are expected till Friday November 16 by the host of the event, the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions.
As one of the numerous accreditated media, NewsParcs was on the show floor today to meet exhibitors and professionals to take stock about industry's latest news, trends, innovations and ongoing projects. Prior to the opening of the show floor, a ceremony was held during which Will Morey - the owner of Morey's Piers amusement park - was introduced as the new IAAPA Chairman of the Board, replacing Roland Mack for a one-year term. The action-packed hour also featured news, entertainments and multimedia reports from around the world as well as a sneak preview of what is ahead for IAAPA in 2013. At this kick-off event were also announced the 2012 Applause Award, Ocean Park Hong Hong (the other nominees were Puy du Fou and Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk) and the 2012 IAAPA Hall of Fame honorees : P.T. Barnum and Bob Masterson (Ripley's).
Later during the day, first official announcements were made by some exhibitors, starting with the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) that presented the 2013 Thea Awards recipients including Europa-Park rewarded with the Thea Classic. Other recipients for TEA Outstanding Achievement Awards include Efteling with Aquanura, Disney California Adventure with Cars Land, Radiator Springs Racers and Carthay Circle Restaurant, Universal Studios Singapore and Universal Studios Hollywood for TRANSFOMERS: The Ride 3D as well as the Warner Bros. Studio Tour – The Making of Harry Potter.
Some amusement parks also held official presentations on the show floor such as SeaWorld Orlando that unveiled the trackless motion simulator vehicle of Antarctica: Empire of the Penguins (Oceaneering) or Silver Dollar City that revealed a car of the upcoming Outlaw Run wooden coaster (Rocky Mountain Construction). The Gravity Group also announced a project with Mount Olympus theme park to add an inversion to the Hades roller coaster.
In parallel to the trade show, IAAPA proposes during the 4 days of the event a comprehensive program of conferences to keep the industry professionals updated on the latest developments, best practices and trends. Presented by leading industry representatives, many topics are discussed including communications and public relations, facility operations, emergency preparation, finance, food and beverage operations, social media, human resources, sales and marketing, retail merchandising, and safety.
This first day concluded with the Opening Reception which was held for the first time in a unique area on the show floor. More than 1,000 participants gathered to network and enjoy food and entertainments.
