French amusement parks engage in sustainable

development

Update : 04/11/12 - 18h52 Published by François Mayné the 2 November 2012, Corporate.
The French trade union for amusement parks, leisure centers and cultural places SNELAC, which represents more than 230 members including the market leaders, has signed on October 25 a memorandum of partnership with François-Tourisme-Consultants (FTC), a consulting firm specializing in sustainable development for the tourism industry.

Goal: to assist their members in their sustainable development step and develop tools to good environmental practices. "The French amusement parks welcome a family audience and we have to commit ourselves to responsible tourism," stated Arnaud Bennet, president of SNELAC and CEO of Le PAL amusement park.

This is the Green Globe Standard - one of the world best known international certification for sustainable tourism - which is proposed to SNELAC members, FTC being its official partner in France. Green Globe standard recognizes tourism businesses that have opted for an approach to improve the environmental and social management of their activities. It comprises 41 individual sustainability criteria supported by a collection of 337 compliance indicators.

At a press conference held at the premises of SNELAC in Paris, two French amusement parks were officially certified Green Globe: Le PAL (certified since 2010, the audit is annual) and Puy du Fou.

Their efforts are thus recognized in fields such as waste management, energy expenditure, wastewater treatment, transportation, or the human and social relations. If investments are substantial (eg environment represents an annual budget of €75,000 or approx $95,000 for Puy du Fou), the savings are significant. In addition, take into consideration the sustainable management can help to anticipate any legal or policy decisions in this area.

"Designed specifically for the tourism industry, Green Globe certification is now a key tool for SNELAC members in their sustainable development process. It will enable organizations to continually improve their economic, environmental and social development," added Philippe François, President of FTC.
