Bellewaerde Park to open an indoor family coaster
manufactured by Zierer in 2013
Update : 25/01/13 - 17h22Published by François Mayné the 28 September 2012, New.
The Belgian wildlife and amusement park Bellewaerde Park, owned by Compagnie des Alpes, announced a few days ago its plans for for the 2013 season during a press conference.
It is more precisely by staging a mysterious container just landed of a cargo coming from South America that Bellewaerde Park announced its largest investment since 1999 with a €4 million (approx $5.1 million) new indoor family roller coaster. "I am very proud and pleased to announce the construction of a new coaster for the spring of 2013," said Stefaan Lemey, CEO of Bellewaerde Park. "This is totally the kind of experiences and emotions that our visitors want to share with their families".
The coaster, that has not been named yet, will replace the dark ride "Los Piratas" (opened in 1991) whose the building will be preserved in order to install the custom designed track made by German manufacturer Zierer.
The ride will be 500 meters long (1,640 feet) with a maximum height of 15 meters (49 feet) and will feature a dark ride part with special effects (lasers, fire, wind, water, etc..) as well as a short passage outside. The two trains (with 20 seats divided in 10 rows of two individual seats) will be equipped with an on-board audio system. The theoretical hourly capacity will be 1,000 people while the access to the ride will be granted to children from 5 years.
The theming of the ride will draw on the ancient culture of the Mayans. The scenario will highlight a mythological force challenging the visitors in an architectural environment inspired by this legendary civilization. The whole artistic design is carried out by the park supported by the Compagnies des Alpe's creative department, CDA Productions.
Located in Ieper not far from the French border, Bellewaerde Park has recently embarked on a major plan to improve its facilities and has initiated a reflection on the future development of the site. Since 2011, they have invested €3.2 million (approx $4 million) for eg the renovation of their tow-boat ride (Jungle Mission, with the addition of special effects and new scenery) or the creation of a new observation point around the lions' enclosure. Many facilities of the park have also been renovated or improved in recent years.
