The water rides specialist Interlink has announced the opening of a new two-lift Log Flume ride at the redeveloped Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier in Texas, United States.
The Pirate’s Plunge flume is one of the many major new rides installed on the 345 meters (1,130 feet) long pier following a multi-million dollar renovation programme which has seen the complete redevelopment of the venue into a major entertainment destination. Developed by Tilman Fertitta, sole owner, chairman and CEO of Landry’s, the national, diversified restaurant, hospitality and entertainment company, a host of family attractions now grace the structure, including numerous rides, games of chance and skill, entertainment, F&B outlets and a range of retail shops.
Having secured the contract for the Log Flume, Interlink started the installation of the ride at the end of 2011, with a soft opening taking place at the end of May this year. The flume is approximately 280 meters long (918 feet) and features two drops, one of 6 meters (19.5 feet) and another of 12 meters (39 feet), the latter affording magnificent views for patrons across the ocean as they travel around the highest point on the attraction. Riders are seated in five seater boats/logs of which there are a total of seven.
Pirate’s Plunge is positioned along the left hand edge of the pier as viewed from the landward end and the turnkey project proved a challenging installation for the Interlink team due to the location and the limited access available.
“The Galveston Pier project has been an interesting and testing one for us to do,” said Interlink Managing Director John Hudd. “Building the ride onto a pier structure was itself very different to installing on land, while the limited access available also brought its own set of challenges which I’m pleased to say we successfully overcame”.
“The pier owners have invested a great deal in its redevelopment and Interlink is very pleased to have been chosen as one of the suppliers who have contributed towards the renovation of what I’m sure will be a hugely popular and successful attraction for Galveston Island” John Hudd added.
As well as various models and sizes of log flume and a recently introduced mini flume, Interlink’s range of water rides includes the Rapid River, Water Battle, Shoot the Chute, Spin Boat and kiddy and junior flumes, all of which allow the company to cater to different customer requirements and a wide range of age groups. A new range of panoramic towers was also recently introduced.
