Tusenfryd to open in 2013 a 3D interactive dark ride
The Norwegian theme park Tusenfryd, located in Vinterbro nearby Oslo, announced it would celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2013 with the opening of a 3D interactive dark ride themed on Norse mythology. This will be the third largest investment for the park, six years after its acquisition by the Spanish group Parques Reunidos.
The dark ride, which name and key suppliers have not yet been revealed, is developped especially for Tusenfryd and will be installed in an existing building. The 3D technology is described as unique in Europe and riders will move through a series of interactive challenges aboard Viking ships. The hourly capacity should be around 800 persons.
"We are excited to introduce to our visitors this attraction that will be unique in Europe with a technology developed specifically for us" said Bjørn Håvard Solli, the director of Tusenfryd. "We have a tradition to open a major new ride every two years. This ride will be the largest indoor project we've done till today with to the key a high capacity and a additional outdoor activity. Our visitors come to visit us whatever the weather, but it's always good to give them a more complete offer with indoor and outdoor activities."
This season, Tusenfryd has opened five new family rides which the main is Western-Expressen, a 335-meters (1.100 feett) long Junior Coaster of Vekoma Rides relocated from Mirabilandia, another theme park owned by Parques Reunidos. The other 4 new rides were installed in a new themed area called Frydskogen! around a forested settings. There is a playground, a Magic Bikes of Zamperla (Sommerfuglene) and two family rides of Technical Park: a caterpillar (Marihøna) and a tea cup (Stubbesnurr).
Since it opened in 1988, Tusenfryd took advantage of a considerable development and has today over thirty rides and activities. The park welcomes nearly 500,000 visitors each year and is the largest seasonal employer in Norway with 750 job positions.
