A World First waterslide by ProSlide scheduled to
open late 2012 at Center Parcs Elveden Forest, UK
Update : 28/08/12 - 12h13Published by François Mayné the 10 July 2012, New.
The holiday resort Center Parcs Elveden Forest, located in Brandon (Suffolk, United Kingdom), is currently adding a new waterslide which is scheduled to open in next November within its indoor water park. The investment announced by the operator Center Parks UK is 4 million British pounds, ie about 5 million euro.
Named Tropical Cyclone, the design of this waterslide has been entrusted to Canadian manufacturer ProSlide that will sign there a world first by combining two of its flagship products: the awards-winning BehemothBOWL™ and TORNADO™.
Seated by four on patented CLOVERleaf™ rafts, riders will start the 180 meters long (590 ft) slide at 18 meters high (59 ft) by a classic section before arriving in the covered BehemothBOWL™; a whirlwind of 12 meters wide (39ft). They will then follow by a sudden 45° drop leading to the inclined funnel TORNADO™ where the rafts will be swinging at 180° before doing a final classic section.
The massive structure of Tropical Cyclone is currently being installed outside but connected to the dome of the water park by a tower while the temperature inside the slide will be maintained at 30°C (86°F). The rafts will reach a maximum speed of about 38 kph (about 23.6 mph) with a water flow approaching 25,000 liters per minute (about 6.604 gallons) for a theoretical hourly capacity of 720 riders (a raft every 20 seconds).
As part of its communication campaign, Center Parcs Elveden Forest compares Tropical Cyclone to the experience of the world's largest and wildest rivers by quoting the rapids of the Zambezi River in Africa, the whirlpools of Naruto in Japan and the Rio Iguazu falls in South America.
We also note that the water park will open a new family pool in addition to this major investment hich is part of a large development plan of Center Parcs UK owned by The Blackstone Group.
Pierre & Vacances Center Parcs, which owns the 19 other Center Parcs outside of UK (in France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands) is also working to renew the offer of its water parks. Since 2011, the Group proceeded with the addition of several waterslides, including two this year in France for example with a model of Topsy-Turvy™ from ProSlide that just opened in Sologne.
