A few days after getting the green light from banks for the launch of an indoor amusement park at City of Arabia in the heart of Dubailand, the developer Ilyas & Mustafa Galadari Group (IMG) has just formally announced its first licensing agreement with US-based Marvel Entertainment to build a family entertainment center named MARVEL Adventure which it will be the owner and operator.
From the beginning of project three years ago, IMG had explained it was negotiating with several international licensors for the use of their content and characters. We learned today that the project (currently named IMG Theme Park) will therefore not be only an indoor amusement park, but a leisure complex with multiple entertainment facilities.
MARVEL Adventure will occupy an area of approximately 3.2 hectares out of the 11 of the future complex. One will find several interactive entertainment experience as well as merchandise & retail outlets stocking and several food and beverage facilities, all based on Marvel characters which include Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America or DareDevil.
Since 2009, Marvel Entertainment is a subsidiary of of The Walt Disney Company which has already shown its intention to develop Marvel rides, attractions and theme parks for its resorts in the future. However, it seems that Disney won't be implicated in the development of the entertainment center because the licensing agreement only concerns the use of Marvel characters.
“We are pleased to collaborate with MARVEL for our multi-faceted themed family entertainment destination. This will be one part of the region’s largest temperature controlled entertainment destinations that IMG is developing which is sure to be a strategic landmark in Dubai, appealing to the region as well as other parts of the world,” said Mr. Ilyas Galadari and Mr. Mustafa Galadari, of IMG Group.
“Following the outstanding global and local box office success of Marvel’s The Avengers, and the strong affinity for MARVEL in the UAE, we are thrilled to be working with the IMG Group to bring some of MARVEL’s most popular characters to kids and families across Dubai,” stated Simon Philips, President of MARVEL Entertainment International. “Whether it’s having fun at one of the entertainment experiences, hanging out with friends and enjoying a meal or collecting the latest MARVEL gadgets and action figures, there is truly something for everyone at MARVEL Adventure.”
The opening of MARVEL Adventure is scheduled for late 2013.
