Polin to supply a King Dragon to The Great Mall of
The water park rides manufacturer Polin is currently designing and manufacturing several water slides and rides for the future indoor water park set to open in October 2013 at The Great Mall of China (GMOC) in Yanjiao not far from the capital Beijing.
When it will be completed within the next five years, GMOC complex will cover about 5.6 million sqm (about 18.5 million sqf) and will offer, beside the mall, two theme parks, a water park, a monorail, an aquarium, a theater and two hotels to become the world’s largest integrated entertainment and commercial shopping area. The water park will stand on two levels (the upper will be glass enclosed) and will cover approx 23.000 sqm (about 76 sqf) and will reach a height of 30 meters (about 98 ft).
As the main supplier for the water rides, Polin will deliver a dozen slides and attractions including its favorite King Cobra that will be the first to be designed to look like a traditional Chinese dragon – a symbol of power and fortune in the Chinese culture - with a custom colour scheme and the head of a dragon instead of a cobra snake. Polin's Marketing Manager Sohret Pakis describes the ride as one of the most intense riding experiences in the industry. She explains : “The waterpark's owners were impressed with its visual impact and appeal. By theming the slide as a dragon, it ties in perfectly with a powerful symbol recognizable to all Chinese guests who visit the park.”
King Cobra’s unique configuration enables two tubes to race through a circular path with twists and turns through enclosed and open sections of the slide at speeds up to 51 kilometers per hour (32 mph). The ride’s finale features a sudden, 8 meters (25-foot) plunge at a 50-degree angle with riders racing until the heart-pounding finish as they appear to be swallowed by a massive mouth of a snake. “Apart from its unique ride path and design configuration, the King Cobra is also the first waterslide to offer its own fiberglass theming” adds Sohret Pakis. Other models will open in the coming months in the United States (Six Flags Great Adventure), France (Aqualand Fréjus), Malaysia (Escape Waterpark) or Indonesia (Bugs Waterpark).
In addition, Polin will install several extreme and/or family water slides including a Space Shuttle, an Uphill Navigatour (water coaster with hydro jets), a Blackhole, a FreeFall and Kamikaze (speed slides), a Space Hole, a Space Boat, a Turbo Lance and a Windigo.
The company will also deliver a wave pool, Jacuzzi, lazy and rapids rivers, relaxation pool and a water play structure Aquatower 100 with a pirates theme, junior slides, water canons and attractions. Sila Gokalp, Landscape Architect at Polin explains : “This water play structure is particularly important because children are considered the most important guests of the park. Thus, the facility will also feature three zones focused on young ones. Each zone will have its own pool and kid-sized slides to ensure one area doesn't get overly crowded. Throughout all three zones, more than 50 different water-play attractions will allow children to splash, squirt and spray.”
GOMC is being funded by Berjaya Great Mall Co. Ltd. (Hebei, China). It's Chief Executtive Officer Kevin Tan sates that "the waterpark is an integral part of the overall facility's success. I'm very excited about the project."
