Almost €15 million investment and 3 new rides for
Liseberg in 2012
Update : 17/05/12 - 12h47Published by François Mayné the 15 May 2012, New.
The Swedish amusement park Liseberg, located in the heart of the city of Gothenburg in the southwest of the country, has invested this season over 134 million SKR - or about €14.8 million - in various new facilities and three new attractions: Lisebergshjulet, JukeBox and Skepp o´ skoj.
Lisebergshjulet is a Ferris wheel of 60 meters high (about 196 ft) manufactured by Bussink that was previously installed next to the opera house Göteborgsoperan where it had opened in 2010. Liseberg has purchased, transported and decorated the ride for about €8 million to provide its visitors with a unique panorama of the city and the Baltic Sea which it overlooks by 90 meters (about 295 ft). And with 42 gondolas that can accommodate 248 passengers, this addition is also a high capacity attraction for the park.
JukeBox is an "octopus" type of amusement ride manufactured by Gerstlauer Amusement Rides (model: Polyp) which replaces a similar model of Schwarzkopf that opened in 1993. With a rock'n'roll theming, gondolas as 50s' American cars and a jukebox in the center, the ride is slightly higher and quieter than the previous one, with an hourly capacity of about 1.250 riders (25 gondolas of 2 passengers).
Finally, Skepp o' skoj replaces the kiddie boat ride Barnbåtarna (opened in 1973) while remaining the same kind of attraction. Scheduled to open in the summer and manufactured by the Swiss company abc rides switzerland, it will be equipped with 10 boats of 2 people, will last about 3 minutes and will be decorated on the theme of the Gothenburg harbour and the west coast archipelago. At the end of their rides, each children will receive a certificate with their names and photos with no extra charge in partnership with the ferry company Stena Line. Also new this season is the arrival of the movie "Sammy & Ray" (nWave Pictures - 15 min) in the 3D theater.
As for the new facilities, Liseberg has spent nearly €3 million to enhance the entrance area with a dozen additional counters. The park also has refurbished a restaurant and two of its hotels (Lisebergsbyns et Liseberg Heden), set up a new e-commerce platform and applied a VAT reduction on food & beverage products. Finally, an extensive program of concerts and entertainments is planned for this summer as every year.
