Angry Birds Land debuts at Särkanniemi

Adventure Park

Update : 21/01/13 - 19h02 Published by François Mayné the 2 May 2012, New.
Särkanniemi Adventure Park located in Tampere, Finland just opened Angry Birds Land : a new themed area dedicated to the crazy world of Angry Birds, a game originally developed for mobile phones by Finnish developer Rovio Entertainment.

Launched in December 2009, Angry Birds became quickly an international phenomenon with several million downloads worldwide. The rules of the game are simple: the player must catapult birds using the touch screen of his mobile towards structures in order to knock out pigs. Now part of the multimedia landscape, the game continues to expand into new platforms, has extended to many merchandising products and could even be a cartoon in the future!

Angry Birds Land

Angry Birds Land was developed by the park in partnership with Rovio and the U.S. company BDR Design which is active in the masterplanning, design and consultancy for the entertainment industry. The main element of the area is a large playground designed by the Finnish specialist Lappset whose theme is inspired by the structures and characters of Angry Birds with swings, slides, climbing walls, bridges, ladders... And even big touch screens on which visitors can have fun with the game!

Angry Birds Land also includes two new rides supplied by the Italian manufacturer Zamperla : Angry Birds Ride (a Jump Around themed with the game's main character) and Majakka (a Sky Tower, mini-freefall tower for 12 people). Finally, decorative elements, food points and an Angry Birds shop are also part of the area. This summer, entertainments will be offered in partnership with Rovio. "Magical Place" will propose to the visitors to download extra content for the game and meet & greet sessions will be organized with some of the characters. The park states that finishing touches will continue untill the official grand opening scheduled on Friday, June 8.

The opening of Angry Birds Land in Särkanniemi is a really big deal for us”, says managing director Miikka Seppälä. ”The theme, design and execution of the area are internationally renowned, so we welcome everyone to Särkänniemi’s Angry Birds Land with pride. The area is definitely a must see destination for millions of players; but also a great experience for those, who are not yet familiar with the theme.

Angry Birds Land is another example of successful collaboration between an amusement park and an intellectual property, a trending within the entertainment industry which was discussed during the education sessions at the Euro Attractions Show in London last year. In this case, Särkänniemi has partnered with a national company and a popular IP to create a buzz relayed by the international press beyond the expectations of its management team. The benefit is threefold: an original addition for the park, an original advertising for the IP and another original design concept for the whole amusement industry.

Särkänniemi is considered as Finland's most diverse leisure center by a poll conducted in 2011. In addition to the amusement park, visitors can enjoy a dolphinarium, an aquarium, a zoo and a planetarium. For more details, please visit www.sarkanniemi.fi
