Gerstlauer Family Coaster Dragonfly now open
at Duinrell in The Netherlands
Update : 01/05/12 - 09h41Published by François Mayné the 30 April 2012, New.
The amusement park and vacations resort Duinrell, located in Wassenaar The Netherlands opened on March 31 a new family roller coaster : Dragonfly.
Owned by Family van Zuylen van Nijevelt, the park has selected Gerstlauer Amusement Rides and its "Family Coaster 360" layout which is the first one to be installed in the world. The German manufacturer has delivered thus its second coaster to the park after the Euro-Fighter Falcon in 2009.
The 16 meters high (52 ft) and 360 meters long (1180 ft) track of Dragonfly combines drops, airtime hills, helix, changes of direction and banked curves. It has been especially designed to be “a child-friendly G-Force adventure” according to Gerstlauer. By adding the Family Coaster to its product portfolio in 2011, it introduced a new designed-train that allows adults and children to sit together in padded bucket seats with individual lap-bars and enough space for the feet. Dragonfly is then accessible to children from 1 meter (3.28 ft).
The twelve-rows train (24 passengers) is equipped with bigger wheels for less wear and a more smoothness ride experience, while the coaster also features magnetic brakes, a silent antirollback system and a chain lift (instead of friction wheels) driven by an energy efficient motor. The capacity per hour is about 750 riders.
Dragonfly has been nicely integrated in the natural surrounding of the park located in the middle of a forest with the track that winds between the trees and the kiddie coaster Kikker-8-Baan. The supports have been painted to look like natural wood in the same colour tones than Falcon that is just a few meters away.
