Parques Reunidos acquires Slagharen theme park

and Resort in the Netherlands

Update : 17/03/12 - 14h48 Published by François Mayné the 16 March 2012, Corporate.
Parques Reunidos acquires Slagharen theme park and Resort

Spanish group Parques Reunidos announced the purchase of Slagharen theme park and Resort, located in Slagharen, north-east of the Netherlands.

Slagharen is one of the largest and best known amusement parks in the Netherlands, receiving about one million visitors per year. Around a Wild West theming, it offers more than 40 attractions and a number of shops, themed restaurants and games, as well as several live western shows and parade.

Slagharen’s resort occupies 80 hectares with more than 800 lodgings for over 5,000 overnight stays each year. It has recently been awarded by the Dutch Tourism Organization “the family park with best price/quality ratio and the best kids’ holiday destination for 2011.”

Richard Golding, the Executive Chairman of Parques Reunidos comments, “the acquisition of Slagharen signifies the extension of our family leisure facilities in a new market, the Netherlands, increasing our Group´s presence in Europe. Slagharen is a wonderful park and has a long tradition which is very well recognized. This acquisition represents another important step in the Parques Reunidos growth strategy.

Slagharen stated: "Both companies are focused on delivering an ultimate experience for visitors. Besides the strategy of Parques Reunidos to grow in new countries, Slagharen was specifically interesting because of its knowledge of managing both an amusement park and a family resort. The park will benefit of additional investments and of the "best practices" of its new colleagues parks. This will increase its competitiveness. "

Parques Reunidos Group is the largest water parks operator in the world, the second largest leisure parks operator in Europe and the fourth largest leisure operator worldwide. With this acquisition, it operates now 72 theme, water, and wildlife parks, as well as family entertainment centers around the world in 11 countries, mainly in Europe and USA.

Recently, Parques Reunidos also incorporated throught its U.S. subsidiary Palace Entertainment into its portfolio Noah´s Ark, the largest water park in the United States. The objective of the group is to continue to grow in the coming years. In 2011, it had a turnover of € 543 million and welcomed 26.2 million visitors.
