The wildlife & amusement park Bellewaerde, located in Ieper Belgium, invests this year € 2.2 million (about $ 2.9 million) in various improvement work as well as in the installation of a new animal specie : European bisons.
Property of the French Compagnie des Alpes group since 2006, Bellewaerde Park launched an important rehabilitations program to offer its visitors more quality, more comfort and a better global visit experience. Last year, the park invested more than € 1 million for the renovation - including a new theming - of the Voodoo River boat ride now known as Jungle Mission.
The new enclosure that will host the European bisons is currently under construction in the Far West section. Bellewaerde said he chose the European variant because it belongs to a species endangered, so he decided to embark on a breeding program as part of its participation in the EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquaria).
Another enhancement for the season includes the creation of a new observation point of the lions' enclosure. A new building with three large windows (of a thickness of 22 mm) themed as a Bengali temple (India) will offer visitors the possibility to enter inside of two jeeps crossing the bay windows, and allowing them to be closer of the animals. This technique of staging of the observation, which is commonplace in the industry, is something new at Bellewaerde. In addition, the attraction Bengal Express - which already allowed visitors to visit the lions' enclosure aboard a train - will benefit of a complete track renovation.
Finally, Bellewaerde also works on others renovations, maintenance and repairs including :
- the extension of one of the two parking lots ;
- the rehabilitation of the "Keverbaan" train (Junior Coaster of Zierer Rides) ;
- the construction of a noise barrier at the back of the Keverbaan ;
- a new painting on the "Boomerang" coaster (Vekoma Rides) ;
- the renovation of the store at the main entrance of the park (with a new theming)
Bellewaerde Park will open its door on April 7th. For more information, visit www.bellewaerdepark.be
