Yas Waterworld Aqua Park will open at the end
of 2012 in Abu Dhabi
Update : 23/02/12 - 22h11Published by François Mayné the 20 February 2012, New.
The huge waterpark currently under construction on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, UAE enters its final phases of development with the unveiling of its official name and logo: Yas Waterworld Aqua Park.
Considered as one of the most ambitious projects of the moment, it will feature 43 rides, slides and attractions on more than 15 hectares with an immersive theme celebrating the culture and heritage of the pearl diving in the emirate. Visitors will follow the adventures of the waterpark’s main character ‘Dana’ – a young Emirati girl in search of a legendary pearl which brought prosperity to the people of her village.
“Visitors to Yas Island can see how far the construction of this landmark project has progressed. Last week we celebrated the topping out of Jebel Dana – the towering centrepiece and home of the Great Mother Pearl,” said Mike Oswald, Park Manager. “Soaring 45 metres above ground, Jebel Dana will be the newest tourism beacon drawing regional and international crowds heading to the island when Yas Waterworld Aqua Park opens later this year.”
Around oasis and traditional oriental buildings, the park will offer more than 30 water slides provided by the two Canadian companies ProSlide Technology and Whitewater West, some of which will be unique in the world according to the first disclosed by the manufacturers.
Among the other rides, Yas Waterworld Aqua Park will have a suspended rollercoaster manufactured by Vekoma Rides which will wind above the walkways. Although this has not yet been confirmed, this could be the first "Splash Party" family coaster where trains are equipped with water bombs while water guns, geysers and various aquatic effects can be installed on the ground.
Finally, the park will provide a full day of entertainments with restaurants, shops and interactive games including a pool for demonstrations of pearl diving.
Developed by Aldar Properties and operated by Farah Leisure Parks Management, Yas Waterworld Aqua Park will be one of the world's largest waterparks with an investment of $ 165 million. It is located adjacent to Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and is set to become an integral part of the Yas Island's entertainment offering which includes the Yas Marina Circuit and the Yas Links Golf Course.
Scheduled to welcome visitors in the fourth quarter of 2012, the construction is progressing rapidly, as can be seen on www.thethemeparkguy.com
