RGH Entertainment (Rubicon Group Holding) is opening up its new Woodland Hills, Calif. themed entertainment design studio to Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) members along with students and faculty from colleges and universities as host of “Working With Academia,” a TEA Western Division event designed to foster collaboration among the themed entertainment industry and the academic world.
Set for January 5, 2012, the gathering will feature a distinguished panel of industry experts, academic leaders, and students brought together for a discussion on such topics as recruiting new talent and providing internship programs, the creation of symbiotic partnerships with academia for research and development, as well as contributing to teaching and mentoring programs in the academic world.
On the academic side, panelists will include Don Marinelli, who co-founded Carnegie Mellon University’s Entertainment Technology Center (ETC); MK Haley, a former Disney Imagineer who now serves as Associate Executive Producer for the ETC and heads the Disney-sponsored research lab in Pittsburgh; and Peter Weishar, Dean of the new themed entertainment and attractions design program at Savannah College of Art & Design. John Carrozza, Professional Recruitment Leader for Walt Disney Imagineering; Amit Shalev, Technology Director for RGH Entertainment; and a number of other industry personalities passionate about connecting with the next generation of themed entertainment talent will join the discussion.
Lenny Larsen, Director of Themed Entertainment at RGH and a member of the Western Division Board of Directors for the TEA, said: “All of us at RGH are excited to be supporting what we hope will become an annual event that will foster important links between the entertainment industry and the academic world to provide opportunities for the next generation of the industry and spark innovative ideas among tomorrow’s talent.”
In addition to faculty and students from local schools including Art Center College of Design, CalArts, USC, UCLA and other local institutions, the event will host students from Carnegie Mellon University’s Entertainment Technology Center who are participating in the university’s annual “West Coast Tour,” which brings first-year students to the West Coast to visit prominent entertainment, production and gaming companies.
