Europa-Park will Open a Great Coasters International
A few days after unveiling the launch of its 5th hotel "The Bell Rock", Europa-Park started to tease on Facebook, announcing that another important project was in preparation for the 2012 season.
In mid-june, the park released fragments of images that allowed fans to reconstruct the sentence "A myth awakes" ("Ein mythos erwacht" in German) The mystery ended on June 17 when the announcement was made officially in the park, with Roland, Michael, Thomas and Jürgen Mack.
And this announcement has been a big surprise ! Because this second project will be the 11th rollercoaster of the park that will expand the list - already long - of existing attractions. This will be a Wooden Coaster provided by the American manufacturer Great Coasters International (GCI), one of the leader in the field which has recently designed Joris de Draak at Efteling in the Netherlands. In Europe, GCI is also the author of Troy (Toverland - Netherlands), El Toro (Freizeitpark Plohn - Germany) and Thunderbird (Powerpark - Finland), coasters that all have quite good reputation among enthusiasts and general public!
We don't have a lot of details about the ride. It will be built on an area of 1.6 hectares in the Icelandic area between the rollercoasters Blue Fire and Atlantica Supersplash. The track will have the particularity of crossing these two attractions, which will certainly provide extra sensations through head-choppers. It will be 1050 meters long for a maximum height of 35 meters, a top speed of nearly 100 km/h and vertical accelerations of up to 3.5 G. The layout has not yet been revealed.
His name was not disclosed and we don't yet know the theme, although the image displayed by the park has a building representing a kind of Viking temple accompanied by what looks like an icon ... And at the sight of some strange characters present at the time of the announcement to the press (see photo), it is probably the Icelandic tales and legends that should serve as an inspiration to the theme of the ride.
To meet its environmental commitments, Europa-Park will use local materials, including a maximum of timber from forests in Germany. Furthermore, internationally recognized certificates will justify the origin of this perfectly ecological material from sustainable forestry.
Work has begun and construction is advancing rapidly. A large trench was dug, a slab is under construction, a building (probably the station) is out of the ground and the first delivery of wood was done a few days ago, as you will see on these photos by Lifthill.net
The opening is planned for spring 2012 . The park already states that the attraction will create twenty new jobs in the long term.
