Six Flags reports record first half 2013

financial results

Update : 25/08/13 - 10h03 Published by François Mayné the 18 August 2013, Corporate.
The world's largest regional theme park operator Six Flags has announced a record high $451 million of revenue (€338 million) for the first six months of its fiscal 2013, representing a 2% increase or + $10 million compared to the prior year.

Six Flags reports record first half 2013Attendance for the first six month was up 1% to stand at 10.7 million guests while the average spending per visitor also increased 1% at $39.74. This rise was a result of a 3% increase of average admission revenue ($22.62) slightly offset by a decrease in in-park revenue ($17.12). The company said that it continued to successfully upsell guests to season passes and membership plans, and that as a result, deferred revenue grew to $130 million in the first half, an increase of 22% exactly like prior year.

Six Flags stated that the growth in profitability during the second quarter was a direct result of the company's pricing strategy and its ability to effectively manage costs. "I am pleased with our record year-to-date financial performance, despite cooler temperatures and unprecedented levels of precipitation at our eastern and mid-western parks during the second quarter," said Jim Reid-Anderson, Chairman, President and CEO. "Our exciting new attractions and all-time high guest-satisfaction ratings have propelled our performance to new highs. We remain on track to deliver our aspirational target by 2015."

The company invested $72 million in new capital during the first half. Highlights of the 2013 season include notably the opening of the world's fastest and tallest looping coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain (Full Throttle, supplied by Premier Rides), the world's tallest aerial flying chairs ride at Six Flags Over Texas (Texas SkyScreamer, supplied by Funtime), the full retracking of the wood roller coaster Iron Rattler at Six Flags Fiesta Texas (by Rocky Mountain Construction) and the transformation of Six Flags Great Adventure, now considered as the world's largest theme park after that the property has combined the amusement park and the safari park.

Six Flags will reveal this August 29th its plans for the 2014 season by announcing most of the rides and shows that will be introduced across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
