The Canadian group of companies WhiteWater announced at a press conference held at the IAAPA Attractions Expo 2012 that it had acquired Apptivations LLC, a company specializes in the integration of new technologies and interactive media within the industry of attractions and theme parks.
Apptivations creates and develops applications for mobile phones and digital tablets allowing visitors to interact with the real environment of an attraction or a theme park via techniques such as augmented reality, object recognition, digital mapping and geolocation. Such applications provide an opportunity for operators to increase their revenues and reinforce their marketing strategy while providing possibility for visitors to share their experiences via social networks for example.
With this acquisition, WhiteWater wants to combine its expertise in waterparks with the expertise of Apptivations to develop mobile applications, interactive games embedded to waterslides and ''night glow'' integrated experiences. One of the first projects resulting of this new collaboration, PearlMasters, will be inaugurated in a few weeks to Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi. This interactive role play will take visitors on a journey around the waterpark in search of clues to decipher puzzles and find pearls. Moreover, the founders of Apptivations - Denise Chapman Weston and Rick Briggs - join the Whitewater's team of product development.
WhiteWater, which recently renew its brand image, is a global leader in waterpark design, engineering, manufacturing and installation. Founded in 1980, the company has delivered more than 4,000 projects and employs over 450 people worldwide.
As one of the most important groups of companies in the attractions industry, WhiteWater also owns Prime Play, the world leader in the design and manufacturing of active family play attractions, Hopkins Rides, a manufacturer specializes in water rides and FormaShape, specializing in composite materials.
