The edutainment theme park Vulcania, located in Saint Ours les Roches in the center of France, today welcomed its 4 millionth visitor, a significant attendance step while it's currently celebrating its 10th birthday.
A family from Montpellier had the chance to be chosen symbolically when they arrived at the park. They were welcomed by Catherine Demesin, Director, René Souchon, President of the Regional Council of Auvergne and the mascot Pitoufeu as well as French actor Gérard Klein that was also exceptionally present. In addition to a VIP tour, the family received a lifetime pass for Vulcania and other gifts including a vacation trip.
Vulcania is celebrating its anniversary with an extensive program of cultural, scientific and festive events that will be held until November, with a peak of activity during this summer season (opening by night, fireworks, street entertainment, etc). Kids are also honored with the opening of "La Cité des Enfants" (playful science experiments for 3-7 years old) and a special ticketing offer (free for those who are 10 years old). The park also has a new attraction opened (Pyroclastic flow tunnel) and has updated one of its exhibition spaces in tribute to the Krafft, two leading volcanologists who died in 1991 (The volcano devils).
Catherine Demesin stated to NewsParcs "Today, it is with great pleasure that we welcomed our four millionth visitor, a family with two children born in the Hérault, quite representative of the public that Vulcania now attracts in Auvergne . This event takes a particular resonance with this anniversary season. We celebrate our 10th anniversary, a decade of a rich and eventful history because Vulcania is a park very young compared to large French amusement parks which are all more than 20 years old."
She added: "However, the latest survey conducted in July 2012 by IFOP for the Figaro newspaper puts Vulcania at 5th position in terms of national notoriety, behind the heavyweights Disneyland, Parc Astérix, Futuroscope and Puy du Fou. This proves the particularly successful positioning of Vulcania, with a theme - volcanoes and the Adventure of of the Earth - representing completely the identity of Auvergne, and a balance between fun and educational acclaimed by visitors. With 85% of visitors coming from outside of Auvergne, the park has become a popular tourist destination for families."
Born in 2002 with the support of the Regional Council of Auvergne and for first objective to diversify and boost tourism in the region, Vulcania shows in an entertaining and educational way volcanology and geoscience. Located in the heart of Puy de Dome in the Natural Park of the Volcanoes, it offers fifteen attractions, exhibitions and interactive animations including simulators and 4D theaters.
