Neptune-Benson announces 5 new Defender®

installations in Australia

Update : 20:03 Published by François Mayné the 13 April 2012, New.
Neptune-Benson, Inc., leading manufacturer of commercial pool filtration systems, acknowledged that they are enjoying a wave of recent success in Australia for its award-winning Defender regenerative media filter.

The company is in the process of commissioning 5 new Defender installations within the last 5 months including projects at:

· Adventure World, Briba Lake, Western Australia
· Canning Aquatic Centre , Canning, Western Australia
· Griffith University, South Brisbane, Queensland
· Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Queensland
· University of Queensland, St. Lucia, Queensland

This latest flurry of activity began with the commissioning of Adventure World’s Kahuna Falls in September of 2011. This interactive playground utilizes just one compact Defender SP-33 filter measuring a slender 838 mm (33 inches) in diameter for all of the attractions various water features. This single efficient unit filters Kahuna Falls’ 95 m³ (25,000 gallons) at a flow rate of 166 m³/hr (730 gpm). The Kahuna Falls installation marks the first use of the Defender filter for Adventure World, however they are already looking at other potential applications.

We are honored to have been selected to provide the filtration for so many of Australia’s premier installations in such a short span of time” said Michael Turner, Neptune-Benson’s VP of International Business Development. “Australians are known to be some of the most devout aquatic enthusiasts in the world – earning their approval is a true achievement.

Of the other projects noted, the Griffith University and University of Queensland, St. Lucia installations are also currently in operation. The Queensland University of Technology installation is expected to be commissioned in May and the Canning Aquatic Centre will be up and running by mid year.

Neptune-Benson’s recent success in Australia comes on the heels of the Defender’s selection as the filter-of-choice for the celebrated State Aquatic Centre in Marion, South Australia. As one of the world’s premier aquatic facilities for both recreation and FINA-sanctioned competitive swimming, the inclusion of Defender in the facility’s filtration systems was a notable milestone in Defender’s history. Several of the Defender filter’s attributes were particularly advantageous for the State Aquatic Centre project. Its small footprint allowed the project’s engineers to utilize space below the pool decks to house the filter room. The Defender filter also removes particles as small as 1 micron, creating the clearest and “fastest” competitive pool water available.

The Neptune-Benson [Defender] filtration system has given us fantastic water quality which we constantly receive praise from our customers” said Gordon Friend, Operations Manager at the State Aquatic Centre. “One of the most exciting aspects of the system is the extremely low water use. Our consumption is far lower than we ever expected.”

The Defender filter provides a number of significant sustainability advantages by eliminating over 90% of the water waste associated with traditional sand filters or other “ultra fine filters” that require regular backwashing. In consideration of the dire water shortages that plague much of Australia, the Defender represents a responsible choice for conserving this precious natural resource. By reducing waste associated with water and chemical loss as well as electrical use and construction savings, the Defender filter offers considerable economic and operational advantages as well.

WhiteWater World’s Defender regenerative media system reduces waste by more than 90% and saves over 22 million litres of water per year” said Bob Tan, General Manager at Dreamworld/WhiteWater World. WhiteWater World was Neptune-Benson’s first adopter of Defender’s advanced technology in Australia. “Our park has been given the highest efficiency rating possible for a waterpark by the ERM, (Environmental Resources Management, Australia).”

It is gratifying to see the Australian aquatic community taking to the Defender’s capabilities with such enthusiasm” said Bob Hawken, Vice President of Sales for Neptune-Benson. “The Defender filter has proven to be instrumental in furthering the success of conservation initiatives like the Target 60 and Waterwise programs, currently underway in Perth. We are eager to work with other aquatic professionals throughout Australia in support of their water conservation efforts.
