Neptune-Benson, leading manufacturer of commercial pool filtration systems, announced that its award-winning Defender® regenerative media filters were selected for inclusion on 2 new attractions at the world renowned Chimelong Water Park in Guangzhou, China. This milestone decision marks the first use of the Defender® filter in China.
Located on over 400,000 square meters (about 99 acres) of land and with the most high-tech water rides and attractions, Chimelong Water Park is the largest and most advanced water park in the world. The park is adding a new Lazy River and a Slide Pool utilizing 3 Defender® filters. These new attractions will be added to Chimelong’s long list of award-winning rides, including many “world-firsts”. Since the park’s opening in June 2007, Chimelong Water Park has drawn worldwide attention as a result of their continuous effort to provide the best service and environment for its guests. The new rides are expected to be operational by May of this year.
“We’ve been delighted to work with the Chimelong team in conjunction with their park expansion and are honored to have our products selected for these critical system requirements” said Michael Turner, Neptune-Benson’s VP of International Business Development. “We had our first direct interaction with Chimelong at the IAAPA Attractions Expo in 2011 and I am pleased to say that they have demonstrated their leadership, vision and professionalism ever since. We’re looking forward to seeing these installations up and running in time for this year’s IAAPA Asian Attractions Expo in Hong Kong this June.”
Chimelong’s management team selected the Defender® regenerative media filter in conjunction with the design teams of Forrec and WhiteWater West of Canada, who designed the original Chimelong Water Park and also with Cloward H2O of Provo, Utah who designed the flow systems for these new rides. The Defender® filter was chosen for its ability to provide pristine water quality by removing particles as small as 1 micron. In doing so, the Defender® eliminates over 99.9% of cryptosporidium (“crypto”) in a single pass helping to ensure visitor safety – a paramount concern for Chimelong.
The Defender® will also help support Chimelong’s sustainability goals by eliminating over 90% of the backwash water waste associated with sand filter operation. Chimelong’s management team had the foresight to recognize that while water may be relatively inexpensive in China at the moment, given the nation’s mounting water shortage; these circumstances cannot be expected to last into the future. By reducing waste associated with water and chemical loss as well as electrical use and construction savings, the Defender® filter offers considerable economic and operational advantages as well.
“This is a very important project for our company and we are excited to have this opportunity to demonstrate the value of our Defender® filters for the first time in China’s growing aquatic industry” said Barry Gertz, Neptune-Benson’s President and CEO.
