Jora Vision wins THEA Award with Arthur : l’Aventure
The Dutch theming company Jora Vision together with the French theme park Futuroscope has won a THEA Award for Outstanding Achievement for the development of Arthur : l’Aventure 4D, a 4-D experience based on the "Arthur and the Minimoys” animated film trilogy by famous director Luc Besson.
The THEA Awards are awarded by a committee of International professionals from the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) and are considered as the "Oscars" of the attractions industry, recognizing and celebrating excellence in the creation of compelling places and guest experiences.
Arthur, l'Aventure 4D was specifically created for Futuroscope. Jora Vision worked for one year with a large team of specialists to create the indoor queue area for the attraction which is an immersion in the charming underground world of the mythical Minimoy creatures. The stunning two story sets cover all surfaces of the queue area - walls, floors and ceilings - creating an organic, underground world of soil, tunnels, roots and creatures.
From the queue, visitors are lead to a 4D sensory experience where they board a special 25-seats vehicle, which mimics the flight of a ladybug through the world of the Minimoys. The 3D, tactile effects, and the story surprises are excellent creating, among other things, the feeling of flying through the threads of a cobweb, being brushed by a frog’s wet tongue, or colliding with an angry bee.
The Thea Awards Committee considered that Arthur, l'Aventure 4D “achieves an excellent story, excellent interior placemaking, excellent 3D imagery and imaginative simulation movements. The attraction is perfectly adapted to the Futuroscope audience and is the number 1 attraction of the park, and achieving extremely high rates of satisfaction, as rated by the mostly French visitors.” They also explained that the overall guest experience demonstrates world-class technical, artistic and storytelling excellence. ”
Considering the theming, the Committee stated that “The queue area is especially outstanding. Inside it, the miniature underground world is beautifully created, completely plunging guests into the story. The photographs don’t do justice to the constantly curving walls, ceilings, floors and props, which together with excellent theatrical lighting, convincingly hide fire sprinklers, convenience outlets, air registers, etc. thus putting guests completely into the story. The craftsmanship and artistry of the queue area are absolutely worldclass, fanciful and completely charming in conception and execution. ”
The award was officially presented at the Futuroscope by Yves Pépin (ECA2 founder) and show producer George Wiktor (The GW Group) at the gala evening of the 18th Thea Awards held last Saturday at Disneyland Resort, California.
Jan Maarten de Raad, managing director Jora Vision; stated “Jora Vision is very proud of this international award. We can’t get a bigger compliment. The International Committee considered the project as world class, and this is a great honour. High quality is very important for Jora Vision and it was confirmed by this award. We are very proud to receive our second THEA Award. Two years ago we were awarded for a very innovative indoor-minigolfcourse in Molenheide, Belgium. I have just returned form the Award Ceremony in Los Angeles and I must admit it was a very impressive event with other award winning attractions like “Space Fantasy, The Ride” at Universal Studios Japan and “Star Tours” at Walt Disney World in the USA. It was a real Oscar-like experience.”
