EAS 2011 - Interview with Marjolein Van de Stolpe,
During our coverage of the Euro Attractions Show that was held in London at the end of September, we made a short stop by the booth of JoraVision, a Dutch company that offers services both in design and production of experiences, environments and attractions for the leisure industry. We met Marjolein Van de Stolpe, Director Development & Design, that explained us that the company has a lot of highlights this year.
The main activity of JoraVision is the creation of custom made themed concepts for small and large theme parks, from dark-rides to rollercoasters, and from restaurants to walkthroughs. They also have developped an unique method of upgrading old rides that they call “Pimp my Ride”, with the conception of a new story and a new visual environnement that immerse the visitors into a new ride experience. Recently, JoraVision has created the theming of the Sprookjesboom and Pandadroom restaurant at Efteling (The Netherlands), Arthur: l’Aventure 4D at Futuroscope (France) and Dynamite Express at Drievliet (The Netherlands). Their customers portfolio also includes Tivoli (Denmark) and Plopsaland De Panne (Belgium) among many others.
JoraVision announced early this year that the company is involved in the project of Adventure World Warsaw, a brand new theme park resort that is scheduled to open in 2014 nearby the capital of Poland. Marjolein Van de Stolpe explains “It’s an amazing project for us! We are working on the designs of Adventure World for more than one year with a great team. There are so much that need to be done, we are designing like crazy !” She adds “Poland is a very interesting market, 38 millions people are living there, the economy is rising and there’s a lot to do in the theming and attractions industry over there. It’s a great country to be working in, and we are glad to cooperate with ride manufacturers such as Vekoma, Zamperla, Mack and Zierer, among many others ”.
This year, JoraVision worked on several projects, including the development of a new theming for several existing rides at Drievliet (Lol Atol), a themed minigolf at Fun Arena in Germany and the queues of two new attractions at Futuroscope: “The Eight Continent” and “The Little Prince 4-D”. In the summer of 2010, JoraVision worked with Compagnie des Alpes on the new style guide for the four Walibi Parks; and they realized a part of the rebranding of Walibi Holland, including the main entrance area, the Walibi Playland children zone and the new restaurant “Club W.A.B.”
Besides the theme parks activity, JoraVision designs and produces immersive environnement for zoo’s and recreational destinations, such as holiday-resorts, sport complexes, kids-indoors and family entertainment centres (FEC). Marjolein Van de Stolpe adds “We have delivered this year a great new project at Kolmarden Zoo in Sweden. We design and build the entrance building of their new attraction: “Safari”. The ride is a flight experience above wild animals enclosures, with a transportation system made by Doppelmayr. We developped the story and the building, and the result is great !"
As for the recreational destinations, JoraVision has been busy all year long, especially in France. “We think that France is a very emerging market for us, we did a lot of works for French campings in 2011. In this specific market, you need to do a little bit more than just create a place… you need to entertain your guests, so why not doing it with a little bit of theming and playing ! ” states Marjolein Van den Stolpe.
JoraVision wished to remain discreet about its current projects for reasons of confidentiality. “We are currently working on a big project in The Netherlands… but I can’t tell you more at the moment. We are working on nice things, it’s a great industry, we love it and we feel very privilegied we can do it” says Marjolein Van de Stolpe.
She concludes “Euro Attractions Show 2011 was very good, a very busy trade show for us! Really nice people we have met and interesting projects again... It’s a very important for us to be present here ”.
